Abstract

The aim of the Master's thesis is to thoroughly analyse the stylistic aspects of the translation of German youth slang using the example of its use in the television series. The German television series ‘Türkisch für Anfänger’ (Turkish for Beginners) serves as research material. The research methodology includes analysis of dictionary definitions for interpretation of meanings and description, on the basis of which observations of the collected factual material are generalised. The language of the youth is based on the system of the modern national language. This means that they do not develop their own language systems, but use existing language tools in a way that is convenient for them. The process of globalisation will give impetus to the emergence of new lexical units. In the modern world, youth slang is expanding its scope as a sociolect. In the past it was used verbally, but today its use is more widespread: it is used on television.
