Abstract

Analysis of regulatory documents and modern research on social support for vulnerable families with children in difficult life circumstances allowed us to determine that social support for this group of service recipients is not only an important form of organizing social assistance, but also a basic social service that has a clearly defined procedure and algorithm of actions in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine. The stages of social support for families with children in difficult life circumstances are characterized (identification of a family belonging to vulnerable groups of the population or in difficult life circumstances; initial examination and assessment of the family's needs; decision-making on the provision of social support; conclusion of a social support agreement; drawing up an individual social support plan; implementation of social support; assessment of the effectiveness of social support; completion of social support; post-support support). The authors describe effective methods of social support for families with children in difficult life circumstances (case management, counseling, methods of socio-pedagogical work, advocacy, mediation/conflict resolution) and indicate that they should be selected in accordance with the identified problems and needs of the family, assessment of the family situation, family relationships, motivation, resources, strengths of family members, support circle and goals of the individual social support plan. It is determined that for effective implementation of social support for families with children, social service providers must adhere to a comprehensive, family-oriented, individual, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental approach, the principle of ensuring the best interests of the child, as well as increase professional competence, develop managerial skills and the ability to make effective decisions. The experience of state and non-governmental organizations that provide social support to families with children in difficult life circumstances is analyzed (using the example of the Kyiv City Center for Social Services, the International Charitable Organization "Charitable Foundation "SOS Children's Villages" Ukraine, the International Charitable Organization "City of Goodness").
