Abstract

The article highlights the problem of developing critical thinking in secondary school students in Ukrainian language lessons using text. It is emphasized that studying text in Ukrainian language lessons develops and improves students' ability to perceive and analyze various types of information, identifying and comprehending the problems and cause-and-effect relationships raised in them, teaches them to think independently, logically and systematically, convincingly arguing the conclusions drawn and making the right decisions. The views of leading scientists in the field on the problem of forming critical thinking are analyzed. It is found that such thinking operations as interpretation, analysis, evaluation, explanation, which are components of critical thinking, are activated when using interactive teaching methods, in the process of interaction and dialogue. It is noted that precisely because of this, the teacher should support the students' desire to discuss, because social interaction is important, in the process of which they communicate, exchange thoughts and impressions, express feelings and assessments, jointly solve problems, master social values. Examples of multi-level exercises and tasks based on text processing aimed at developing critical thinking in students are given. It is concluded that the formation of critical thinking in students based on the processing of educational text meets the needs of the time, since it forms in them the ability to adequately understand what has been read, critically evaluate information, separate the main from the unimportant, determine cause-and-effect relationships, argue their own judgments and assessments, clearly formulate conclusions and generalizations. It is emphasized that such an organization of work with the text contributes to the development of an attentive attitude to language, the development of language and speech skills and abilities, and therefore the formation of relevant competencies.
