Abstract

Developing an effective set of exercises for developing speaking skills requires a thorough understanding of the psychological and pedagogical characteristics of primary school students. Fourth-grade students (aged 9-10) are in the final stage of primary school, which is characterized by specific cognitive, emotional, and social characteristics. From a cognitive point of view, children of this age are predominantly visual-imaginative, but verbal-logical thinking is actively developing. It is during this period that voluntary attention and memory develop intensively, but the duration of concentration on a single task is 15-20 minutes, which requires frequent changes in the types of activities in the classroom. An important characteristic of this age is developed imagination and creativity, which makes storytelling a particularly effective teaching method. Children are prone to fantasizing, easily get into the role of characters, and react emotionally to the plot of stories. This feature creates a natural motivational environment for using a foreign language.
