Abstract
The relevance of the study on the formation of health-preserving competence in third-grade students through Ukrainian folk traditions is determined by the contemporary challenges facing the education system. The deterioration of the health status of primary school children is one of the most significant social problems, which encourages educators, researchers, and the public to search for effective ways to preserve and strengthen schoolchildren’s health. The aim of the study was to theoretically substantiate and experimentally verify a set of pedagogical conditions that ensure the effectiveness of this process. The paper reveals the essence and structure of health-preserving competence of a primary school student, substantiates and develops a model for its formation based on the integration of folk traditions. The effectiveness of a set of pedagogical conditions was identified and experimentally confirmed, including the integration of folk traditions (holidays, rituals, proverbs) into the educational process and the use of innovative forms of work (thematic health days, creative projects). It has been proven that the use of Ukrainian folk holidays and proverbs significantly increases the level of formation of the value-based and motivational-activity components of health-preserving competence.
