Abstract
The master’s thesis is devoted to the study of the problem of forming moral and ethical values of primary school students through literary works. The relevance of the research is determined by the implementation of a competency-based approach in education and the increasing role of the language and literature educational field in personality development, as well as in the formation of spiritual and moral qualities and value orientations of primary school students. The thesis clarifies the essence of the concepts of “values,” “moral values,” and “moral and ethical values,” and analyzes psychological and pedagogical approaches of Ukrainian scholars to the problem of moral education of primary school children. Particular attention is paid to the educational potential of literary works and their influence on the development of students’ emotional sphere, moral judgments, and behavioral models. The practical part of the research identifies criteria and indicators for the formation of moral and ethical values and presents interactive teaching methods for working with literary texts during reading lessons. The pedagogical experiment confirmed a positive dynamic in the formation of moral and ethical orientations of primary school students.
