Abstract

In the master’s qualification thesis, a comprehensive study of the global food commodities market is conducted under conditions of deepening globalization processes and the growing role of food security in ensuring the socio-economic stability of states. It is substantiated that the current stage of development of the world economy is characterized by a high level of integration of food markets, intensified international competitive interaction, increasing complexity of global supply chains, and heightened sensitivity of agri-food systems to external shocks, including pandemics, military conflicts, logistics crises, climate change, and fluctuations in energy prices. Under such conditions, the economic assessment of the global food market acquires strategic importance as a tool for identifying key development trends, analyzing structural transformations, assessing the competitive positions of countries, and determining risks to global and national food security. The study demonstrates that globalization significantly changes the parameters of the functioning of the global food market by shifting centers of production and consumption, transforming models of agricultural production, strengthening the role of transnational corporations, and intensifying state and supranational regulation. It is determined that the modern food market develops under the influence of innovative, digital, and environmentally oriented trends that form new requirements for the efficiency, resilience, and adaptability of agri-food systems. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of global imbalances between food supply and demand, price volatility, inequality in access to food resources, and the increasing risks of food insecurity for countries with open economies. The purpose of the master’s qualification thesis is to substantiate the theoretical foundations and to develop methodological approaches to the economic assessment of the global food commodities market under globalization, taking into account structural shifts, international competitive interaction, and the growing importance of food security. The object of the research is the economic mechanisms of development of the global food market in the context of globalization transformations, while the subject of the research comprises economic relations, pricing mechanisms, development trends, and regulatory instruments of the global food market, as well as their impact on national food systems. In the course of the research, the theoretical and methodological foundations for analyzing the global food market are deepened, the factors of its development under globalization are systematized, the features of competitive interaction among market participants are identified, and the mechanisms of market environment formation are determined. The influence of globalization, price, logistics, and technological factors on the transformation of the structure of the global food market is revealed. It is substantiated that instability in the global environment increases the importance of state participation in shaping effective food policy and developing instruments to ensure the resilience of agri-food systems. Considerable attention in the thesis is paid to analyzing Ukraine’s role in the global food commodities market. The dynamics of its export potential, the structure of foreign trade, the level of integration into global value chains, and the impact of military risks on the formation of the country’s competitive positions are examined. Key problems and constraints in the development of the national agri-food sector are identified, including logistics losses, infrastructure destruction, rising production costs, and increased price instability. At the same time, the prospects for modernization of Ukraine’s agricultural sector, development of the processing industry, improvement of energy efficiency, and diversification of export specialization as a basis for strengthening food security are substantiated. The theoretical significance of the obtained results lies in the development of scientific provisions regarding the economic assessment of the global food market, clarification of its structural characteristics, and identification of the patterns of its functioning under globalization and wartime transformations. The scientific novelty of the study consists in improving the analytical framework for researching the global food market, developing approaches to modeling food security, and substantiating strategic directions for increasing the efficiency of state food provision. The practical significance of the research results lies in the possibility of their application by public authorities, agribusiness entities, processing enterprises, and food security institutions for shaping effective economic and agricultural policies, optimizing production and logistics processes, enhancing the competitiveness of the national agri-food complex, and strengthening Ukraine’s food security under global and wartime challenges.
