Abstract

The relevance of the study is determined by the social need to develop creative, proactive individuals capable of critical thinking and self-expression, which meets the requirements of the New Ukrainian School Concept. However, in practice, the creative potential of younger pupils in the process of reading often remains unrealised due to the predominance of reproductive methods of work. A contradiction has been identified between the requirements for the development of creativity in 4th grade students and the insufficient development of specifically targeted methodological systems in this context. The aim of the study is to analyze the development of the creative abilities of 4th grade students in the process of reading activities and to develop and test effective methods for their formation. The practical significance of the study lies in the creation and testing of a system of creative tasks and exercises aimed at overcoming key deficits in pupils (flexibility of thinking, critical thinking, imagination, cooperation). The system was developed taking into account the main texts of the Ukrainian Language and Reading textbook for 4th grade and includes such innovative forms of work as the creation of comic strips, fairy tale mixes, literary debates, audio performances (podcasts) and literary quests. The results of the testing confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed system for the comprehensive development of creative abilities and reading competence.
