Abstract

The article examines the formation of civic and cultural-national identity of Ukrainian students amid the full-scale Russian invasion, emphasizing the need for an educational system that develops responsibility for statehood, national values, and cultural awareness. The study aims to justify literary education as a tool for shaping civic and cultural-national identity within the New Ukrainian School and to propose methodological approaches that enhance this process. The methodology combines theoretical analysis of philosophical, psychological, pedagogical, and methodological literature with the review of state standards and curricula. Empirical methods include pedagogical observation and interviews with teachers and students. The article conceptualizes the Ukraine-centric identification sphere, integrating civic and cultural-national components, reflected in active citizenship, defense consciousness, patriotism, and respect for national symbols. The study shows that Ukrainian and Foreign Literature courses provide opportunities for identity formation through artistic images and value-oriented reading. Competency-based, axiological, and student-centered approaches help students internalize values, interpret texts personally, and act consciously. Interactive and research-oriented methods – projects, comparative quests, debates, and creative writing – create a learning environment fostering reflection and self-identification. The results demonstrate that such methodology consolidates national values and supports Ukrainian youth’s integration into the European cultural space.
