Abstract

The scientific research carried out a linguistic analysis of military terminology, characterized the structure of the terms of the specified sphere, their stylistic features and conceptual sphere. Structural and semantic analysis of military terms showed that the specified vocabulary is characterized by a high level of systematicity, the presence of a clear hierarchy of concepts and a wide range of abstraction – from basic names of objects and processes to complex concepts reflecting strategic or ideological categories; a significant part of the terms has a multilayered etymological structure, which indicates interlingual borrowings and dynamic development in the modern language space. Stylistic and compositional analyses of military texts (orders, instructions, analytical reports, journalism) revealed the dominance of official-business and scientific-analytical styles, which ensure the accuracy and unambiguousness of terminology; in journalistic texts, military vocabulary often performs expressive and ideological functions, serving as a means of emotional influence on the audience. The concept sphere war/defense/protection, analyzed within the framework of comparative terminology, demonstrates significant cultural and linguistic variations; in different languages and cultures, these concepts are accompanied by different connotations, metaphors and associative series, which determines the need for cross-cultural sensitivity when translating and interpreting military vocabulary. Linguistic analysis of modern military discourse has shown that military terms in the media and journalism often undergo semantic transformation. In peaceful and military contexts, the same terms can acquire different meanings, serve as tools of ideologizing, form the image of the enemy or consolidate public opinion
