Abstract
The thesis is dedicated to analysis of the mythic and ritual forms in the poetry of V.Herasymyuk, I.Rymaruk, I.Malkowych and to the discovery the role of this poetry in the literary process of 1960-90s. This poetics is oriented on a magic word, on the mythic and ritual matrix of a life cycle (“a birth — an initiation — a marriage — a death”), which accumulates the experience of overcoming of the verge existential situations. These representatives of the 80s poetic generation not only penetrate deep into the prime matter of a ritual, but also re-evaluate the traditional ideas by revealing of word’s archaic stratums. Moreover, the structure of a poetic text built up from the ritual gestures, signs, mythologemes assumes the similitude of the myth’s or invocation’s structure. Therefore, these mythic and ritual patterns are introduced in the poetry of the 80s generation on the general philosophical level as well as on the level of the individual images, symbols and motifs. The peculiarities of this poetics are based on domination of the female archetypes, structuring of a space by the principle of “our” / “alien”, interrelation between the linear and the cyclic chronological patterns, textualization of the mythologemes of a cosmic hierogenics, a ritual sacrifice and an initial ordeal. What is important, in poetry of these representatives of the 80s generation’s is clearly seen the resistance of intuitive and emotional origins of a human being to the cult of ratio that is the part of the positivism. Actually, the positivistic pattern of a precise demarcation of sensual and intellectual experience transforms to the initial pattern of having simultaneous experience of love, death and cognition. Besides that, the positivistic pattern defines cognition not as the insight, but as the gradual accumulation of knowledge. In this poetry the artistic embodiment of the mythical female images that combine the ideas of both a birth and a death are connected with cyclic chronological pattern. Conversely, in the positivism time is considered to be linear. Moreover, the categories of a death and a non-being in this poetry are separated. On the one hand, a death as an experience of the human being’s mortality is not fatal or final because a death connects a temporary existence of an ”ego” and an everlasting existence of a generation. On the other hand, a non-being is merged with categories of memory (as the forgetness) and space (as the emptiness). Furthermore, a non-being is the metaphor of inequality of a human’s real life space to the immanent patterns where the connection of a human being with generation, people, and land is contained. This fact can be illustrated through the problem of space modelling. The artistic space of the lyric poetry of the previous years is characterized as both monolithic and intact; this quality of the space is determined by the presence of the inside sacred center and outside “alien” space. However, the artistic space of the poetry of V.Herasymyuk, I.Rymaruk, I.Malkowych is stratificated and inhomogeneous; in other words, the “alien” space can be the part of “our” land. Moreover, the image of Mother that constitutes archetypes in the folklore and stereotypes in the lyric poetry is profoundly transformed. The semantic cliché “Mother-Ukraine” is changed by the ambivalent, non-traditional interpretation of the archetypal symbols through brining the elements of religious discourse into the semiotic space of poetry. It is implied that not only the image of the Virgin, but also the archaic image of the Mother-Goddess who gives birth to a child and kills it are introduced in this poetry. As can be seen, this thesis is an attempt to show that the representatives of the 80s generation have created a new language as a new artistic reality. Above all, this aesthetic action takes the deep ideological sense. Consequently, these poets of the 80s generation aim to reveal the fundamentals of their language outside “the language of power” for the purpose to overcome “the power of language”. Therefore, introduction the archaic mythic and ritual forms in this poetry is connected to necessity of restoring the initial sense of a word through the sacred silence.
