Abstract

The nature of values and their role in students’ national cultural identity development in choreography is examined in this paper. The essence of the concept of “axiology” is defined and the focus on the activity approach in the context of social interaction and the formation of national values among Ukrainian youth is made. The problem’s relevance is established by Ukrainian law and serves as the normative basis for the educational process in higher education institutions. Important components of the humanitarian paradigm that influence the assimilation of general cultural and personal values of choreography students are indicated. The manifestation of the nature of values through the prism of national culture as the main factor in the formation of an artistic worldview is highlighted. The concept of the axiology of dance is explored within a cultural approach that preserves the semantic codes of traditional culture embedded in dance heritage. The emotional and value-based nature of Ukrainian culture as a bearer of aesthetic values in the artistic imagery of dance forms is defined. A new interpretation of folk dance in the formation of a national modus in the present-day cultural and artistic space is noted, as is the education of bearers of ethnic models imbued with a deep conviction in the value of national characteristics. Ukrainian dance is characterised as a unique artistic phenomenon that demonstrates the originality, spiritual and creative potential of Ukrainian art, the nation, and the state. Important aspects of the axiological dimension as a mechanism for fostering the national and cultural identity of student choreographers are highlighted, in particular, self-reflection and identification of oneself as a subject of national culture. The methodological basis of a choreographer’s professional activity is outlined, grounded in axiological competencies with an emphasis on aesthetic culture and the harmonious development of their psychological qualities. It is proposed to introduce the artistic works of leading choreographers of the past and present into the choreographic education curriculum.
