Abstract
The subject of the article is the literary narrative of the traumatic experience of a Ukrainian woman who survived the so-called de-kulakization of a traditional Ukrainian village in the 1920s and 1930s. Specifically this type of female experience is reflected in the play Domakha (1947) by Ukrainian diaspora writer Lyudmila Kovalenko as a form of representation of female social trauma and the consequences of experiencing such trauma in the form of survival strategies in later life. The theme of a woman psychological resilience as a result of living through social catastrophes and state violence, such as the painful transformations of the Ukrainian village (called "collectivization" by the Soviet state) requires philosophical and ethical reflection, which is contained in Lyudmila Kovalenko`s play. The relevance of the article is based on the need for a new understanding of such traumatic experiences of Ukrainian women in the context of the genocide experienced by Ukrainians in the 1920s and 1930s. This is the time when the collectivization of the traditional Ukrainian village becomes the first pre-Holodomor stage of the systematic destruction of the Ukrainian people (their identity, agency, and ultimately - their lives).Revival of the memory of the destruction of the Ukrainian village during the era of "collectivization" acquires special significance in the context of modern challenges and events: the destruction of an entire social stratum of rural owners - kulaks ,radically changed the structure of society, the psychology of Ukrainians, and caused deep social, moral and cultural trauma. At the same time, the Ukrainian people (Ukrainian women in particular) come out of this social trauma with special psychological tools, survival strategies, and ethical beliefs that involve focusing not on social, but on family values. The purpose of the article is to analyze how these special psychological qualities of Ukrainian women were formed during extreme social trauma. Namely -qualities characterized by adoptive strategies of survival in extreme conditions of social catastrophes and the concentration of ethical values in the family environment. The results of the article's research show that Lyudmila Kovalenko's playDomakha is significant not only as a testimony to the life of an individual woman who experienced the severe social trauma of the "collectivization"of the Ukrainian village, but also a work that performs an important generalizing function of transforming individual trauma into a collective experience to be processed andunderstood at a national level - through the lens of history, literature, and dramaturgy.
