Abstract

This letter examines the role of letters to the editor (LTEs) as a forum for public and professional engagement with geoengineering. Based on a bibliometric analysis of 66 LTEs indexed in the Web of Science, the authors identify dominant thematic focuses, authorship patterns, and geographical representation. The findings show that LTEs are primarily oriented toward practical issues such as governance and priority setting, while contributions from low- and middle-income countries remain limited. The letter argues that LTEs can serve as an accessible and dialogical format for inclusive engagement in controversial scientific domains and recommends expanding free-to-publish and open-access correspondence formats to enhance global participation.
