Abstract

The article is devoted to the formation of national styles of Poland and Ukraine in the late 19th – early 20th centuries in the work of Stanisław Witkiewicz and Amvrosi Zhdaha and their followers. Taking into account the ideas of the Arts and Crafts movement in England and the Vienna Workshops in Austria, the components of the architectural and furnishing styles of Podhale in the Art Nouveau era are considered. The latter were based on the foundations of the Slavic heritage of the region within the Young Poland movement starting from the end of the 19th century. The specific artistic and figurative features of the interiors and the filling with works of decorative and applied art of buildings designed in the Zakopane style by S. Witkiewicz during 1891–1914 and his followers during the 1910s – 1930s on the territory of ethnic Poland, Western Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania are analyzed. In particular, a number of villas and guest houses, estates, houses, a mountain shelter, a railway station (train station), a sanatorium, chapels, a monastery; resort villas. The concept of S. Witkiewicz about the unification of the disunited lands of Poland during the Art Nouveau period according to the styleforming principle in art and architecture, which was later realized, including in the work of Ukrainian representatives of the artistic community, is considered. Attention is focused on artistic woodcarving as a fundamental element of the program of the revival of folk architecture, iconostases, temple utensils, horse-drawn transport, and folk-style furniture. The formation of the stylistics of the interiors of architectural structures and their filling in the Ukrainian style in the work of Amvrosy Zhdakha around 1919 is traced. Namely, various chests and chests of drawers, furniture (sideboards, chests, basins, armchairs with elements of textile decor, chairs), tiled stoves, ceramic and porcelain-faience dishes, etc., the designs of which are stored in the collection of the State Scientific Architectural and Construction Library named after M. Zabolotny in Kyiv.
