This study examines the representation of emotional experience and care in contemporary women-centred popular fiction through a corpus-assisted analysis of the novels of Sophie Tal Men. While previous research has identified emotions and interpersonal relationships as central themes of women-oriented fiction, less attention has been paid to the linguistic mechanisms through which emotional meaning is constructed. The study focuses on recurrent verbal patterns and their role in the indirect representation of emotional experience. Drawing on corpus stylistics, narrative theory, and feminist approaches to care, the analysis investigates the frequency and collocational behaviour of verbs associated with perception, hesitation, and response. The findings indicate that emotional experience is rarely expressed through explicit emotion vocabulary. Instead, it emerges through verbs such as sentir, sembler, and hésiter, which present emotions as processes of perception, interpretation, and uncertainty. Particular attention is given to the verb sembler, whose collocational profile demonstrates how emotional meaning is constructed through tentative evaluation rather than direct statement. The study also shows that care is represented not as an explicitly named emotion but through recurring patterns of attention, support, and interpersonal involvement. The results suggest that emotional experience and care are organised through similar verbal structures that emphasise process, relationality, and contextual interpretation. By combining quantitative corpus analysis with qualitative interpretation, the study demonstrates the value of corpus-assisted methods for identifying recurrent linguistic patterns that contribute to the representation of emotional meaning in contemporary women-centred fiction.
