Abstract

The article examines the major methodological innovations shaping contemporary Translation Studies in response to technological advancement, interdisciplinary expansion, and evolving research paradigms. Particular attention is paid to the transition from traditional linguistic and descriptive approaches to multidimensional frameworks that integrate socio-cultural, cognitive, and technological perspectives. The study analyses the growing role of corpus-based methodologies in enhancing the empirical validity and reliability of translation research through the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. It further explores the impact of large language models (LLMs) and generative artificial intelligence on translation processes, translator competence, and pedagogical practices, highlighting emerging issues related to authorship, agency, and AI-assisted translation. The article also discusses recent developments in Cognitive Translation and Interpreting Studies (CTIS), including the use of eye tracking, keylogging, and experimental research designs to investigate cognitive aspects of multilingual mediated communication. The findings demonstrate that contemporary Translation Studies is increasingly characterised by methodological hybridity, data-driven inquiry, and human–AI collaboration. These developments contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of translation as a complex cognitive, technological, and socio-cultural activity while offering practical implications for translator training, quality assessment, and professional practice.
