Анотація
The master’s thesis examines the peculiarities of German youth slang in modern television series and analyzes its lexical, stylistic, and pragmatic functions. The aim of the research is to determine the role of youth slang as a means of informal communication as well as a marker of social and cultural identity. Special attention is paid to the translation of slang expressions and their equivalent rendering in other languages. The theoretical part of the study includes the analysis of the terms slang, youth language, and colloquial language, their development in the German-speaking world, and the classification of different types of slang. The practical part focuses on the analysis of dialogues from the television series Klassentreffen, Krass Klassenfahrt, Kitz, Ginny & Georgia, and How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast). The research methods applied in the study include the descriptive-analytical method, the comparative-contrastive method, discourse analysis, semantic-pragmatic analysis, and corpus-based linguistic analysis. The results of the research demonstrate that youth slang in audiovisual media performs not only expressive and emotional functions but also serves as a means of character portrayal and representation of social relationships. Furthermore, it was established that many slang expressions are difficult to translate due to their cultural and pragmatic peculiarities. The study confirms the hypothesis that youth slang is a dynamic linguistic phenomenon closely connected with modern forms of communication and the process of identity formation among young people.
