Abstract

The article is devoted to the psychometric analysis of the Vocational Orientation Questionnaire (VOQ), developed based on J. Holland’s theory, and the determination of prospects for its application in vocational diagnostic practice. The VOQ is a modification of the psychodiagnostic instrument proposed by J. Holland. It utilizes only the stimulus material of the original methodology related to identification with specific occupations. In this questionnaire, occupations are presented as dichotomous pairs from which the respondent must choose the one that is more appealing. The primary issues with published versions of the VOQ are: 1) the number of comparisons between professional types is unequal; 2) the occupations being compared are similar in content, complicating the selection process. Based on a sample of 103 psychology students, the study investigated the internal consistency of the scales, concurrent validity, and factor structure. It was established that, when published keys are used, most scales exhibit insufficient internal consistency, despite statistically significant correlations with analogous professional interest scales in the Jovaisa methodology, which was used to verify concurrent validity. Concluded that the scales in the published test relate to professional types according J. Holland, because there are signs of its validity (content validity and concurrent validity). But the accuracy with which the expression of professional types is measured is very low and insufficient for practical application. Based on the results obtained, modified keys with higher internal consistency indicators were proposed. In particular, from the keys for calculating points on the scales were removed professions that haven less than 10% and more than 80% of respondents, and that who did not correlate with the total score. Also, some professions were assigned to other professional types. A version of the questionnaire with 45 dichotomous pairs (VOQ-45) was developed, which eliminates the identified imperfections of the previous version. It is concluded that further validation of the methodology and refinement of its practical application possibilities are necessary.
