Анотація
The paper examines unfinished utterances as a means of indirect emotional expression in contemporary women-centred fiction. The study focuses on Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, Ghosts by Dolly Alderton, and No et moi by Delphine de Vigan, exploring how fragmented speech functions in emotionally difficult communicative situations. Particular attention is paid to hesitation, pauses, interrupted syntax, repetitions, and incomplete statements associated with vulnerability, loneliness, emotional insecurity, and difficulties of direct verbalization. The analysis demonstrates that emotional meaning in the selected novels is frequently conveyed not through explicit emotional vocabulary but through disruptions of communicative fluency. Unfinished utterances thus function as an important linguistic and narrative device for representing emotional experience indirectly.
