Abstract
The paper reveals the essence of influence of Mary E. Richmonfd’s contemporaries-opponents on shaping her world outlook and professional development. The author singles out two main groups of scientists who, in a certain way, affected the advance of social work theory by Mary E. Richmond. The first group consists of allies and friends (those who supported and complemented the researcher’s ideas and the theory; the second group includes her opponents (representatives of the charitable sphere who criticized or were against certain ideas and forms of Mary Richmond’s work).
