Abstract
Current Ukrainian fiction is considered in terms of P. Bourdieu’s concept of fields as well as a tool of self-description of a nation. Relationship between the fiction field dynamics and formation of the nation’s ethnic and national self-identification under conditions of transformations of both fictional and ideological fields is traced. N. Ferclought's hypothesis about a tie between terms «field» and «discourse» was adapted to current Ukrainian fiction. From the reader’s point of view with exception of relatively small but influential group of «reader-experts» the Ukrainian fiction is characterized by features inherent to «minor literature». Identification effects of the Ukrainian fiction pieces depend on a combination of their market and aesthetic characteristics.
