Dynamics of students’academic procrastination

The article reveals the relevance of studying the problem of students’ academic procrastination manifestations during the period spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of the study of the dynamics future psychologists’ academic procrastination during 2019-2021 are analyzed. The most common forms of students’ procrastination are communication on mobile phones or social networks, watching films, searching for information on the Internet and hobbies. Qualitative changes in the level and manifestations of students’ academic procrastination duet transition to the distance learning are identified. There are tendencies of decrease of the general indicators of students’ academic procrastination. At the same time there is an increase in the number of respondents with medium and high levels of procrastination at the beginning of the pandemic. Data analysis for 2021 year shows an initial decline in the overall statistical indicators of the future psychologists’ academic procrastination. This is the evidence of adaptive processes of students to the distance learning conditions. The main adaptive mechanism is reflection by future psychologists of basic psychological goals, conditions and resources of their professional development. However, there is an increased risk of learning burnout of students, who consider procrastination only in a deficient light, and they see their own laziness and insufficient volitional regulation as its leading factor. The increase in the negative emotional accompaniment of academic procrastination’s manifestations during a pandemic is identified. In particular, we note the fact that this year many more respondents are experiencing anxiety and fear, caused by their own academic procrastination than last year. Accordingly, the development and testing of a program for the prevention of the academic procrastination among students is relevant. Ways to implement this program should be the optimization of educational and scientific cooperation of students and teachers, improving time management skills, self-knowledge and self-development skills.
