Abstract
Importance of the dissertation lies in the necessity to activate social and linguistic examine the linguistic situation of Ukraine, issues of the Ukrainian language functioning in the conditions of Donetsk region bilingual situation where both Ukrainian and Russian language are in use, which has not only theoretical significance but also a practical side for introduction of state language program in the region. Particular attention shall be given to the linguistic behavior of the youth, features of the both languages use by young people, since the youth will determine the linguistic situation in the future. Purpose of the work – is to carry out a complex analysis of the language situation in the high schools and high education establishments of Donetsk region, examine the interlinguistic deformations, predetermined by the strong impact of the Russian language upon the Ukrainian language, and describe the role of education for the national consolidation of Ukraine. Resources for the research: 1) regulatory documents of the relevant Ministry, which in various years regulated the functioning of languages in the educational establishments (orders, letters from the Ministry of education of Ukraine); 2) results of the targeted questionnaire surveys among students of 9– 11 forms, students of І–ІV year, carried out by the author in 2019–2020 years in Slovyansk, Bahmut, Pokrovsk, and Mariupol (1179 questionnaires in total: 116 respondents – from Donbass State Pedagogical University, 155 respondents – 9 from Mariupol State University, 178 respondents – from Horlivka Institute for Foreign Languages, 127 respondents – from Donetsk National Technical University, 120 respondents – from secondary education establishments in Slovyansk, 18 respondents – from secondary education establishments in Bahmut, 143 respondents – from secondary education establishments in Pokrovsk, 155 respondents – from secondary education establishments in Mariupol); 3) spoken language of pupils and students; 4) materials of mass statistic surveys (researches of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, surveys conducted by “Socis” company; surveys within the frames of the project Kantar TNS Online Track; nationwide research, arranged by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Razumkov Centre sociologic service; all-Ukrainian sociological survey of the population conducted by the Social Monitoring Center; all-Ukrainian sociological survey “Thoughts and views of the Ukrainian population” conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology) with more than 3000 respondents. Scientific newness of the work is predetermined by the fact that it is the first work that establishes and characterizes the dynamics of the languages use in the academic field of Donetsk region; it provides a complex analysis of the language situation in the establishments of the general secondary and high education in Donetsk oblast; it focuses attention on the common and minor problems of the society bilingualism under the multi-cultural conditions. Theoretical value of the research is composed of the certain contribution to the modern practical Philology, in particular, it extended the definition of the main terms used by Sociolinguistics – such as “bilingualism”, “linguistic situation”, “linguistic behavior”, besides, it extended the substantiation of the linguistic situation complex analysis methodology from the viewpoint of quantitative, qualitative, and evaluation parameters, established the role of social, political and demographic factors of bilingualism development in the academic field of Donetsk region. 10 Practical value of the obtained results lies in the fact that the reviewed theoretical provisions and interpreted empiric materials allow to examine the linguistic situation in the educational establishments of the Eastern Ukraine. Materials and the conceptual issues of the dissertation may be used for: а) preparation of new researches in the field of Sociolinguistics, the History of the Ukrainian language, Psycholinguistics, General Linguistics, Linguodidactics; b) for deep studies of the linguistic situation in Ukraine, in particular, its post�totalitarian deformations and assimilative impact of the Russian language; c) for the courses of Sociolinguistics, History of the Ukrainian language, Psycholinguistics, General Linguistics, Linguodidactics; d) to develop methods for the Ukrainian language communicative capacity improvement and establishment of the language in the capacity of the state language in Donetsk region.
