Abstract

The article deals with the problem of a literary fairy tale as a universal tool with therapeutic properties. The essence and peculiarities of a literary fairy tale as a genre of an author's work, which characterises original ways of solving various problems through fantastic, allegorical reflection of events and images, are outlined. Attention is focused on the components of the structure, types of literary fairy tales (fairy tales-poems, fairy tales-novels, fairy tales-stories, fairy tales-legends, fairy tales-translations, fairy tale epics). The functions of the literary fairy tale are highlighted: aesthetic, cognitive, didactic, social, entertaining, modelling, experience storage, and positivism. The main task of the article is to outline the therapeutic potential of a literary fairy tale as one of the effective means of solving personality problems. The article characterises scientific approaches to the interpretation of a literary fairy tale (literary, cultural, semiotic, folklore, socio-historical, gender, linguistic, structuralist, psychoanalytic, behavioural, existential, psychotherapeutic). Based on the psychotherapeutic approach to the interpretation of a literary fairy tale, the attention is focused on the therapeutic properties of the phenomenon under study: identification of problems and conflicts through identification with the characters of the work, acceptance of the situation, activation of personal resources, finding ways to solve problems, search for new options for personal improvement, formation of emotional intelligence, liberation from obsessive behavioural patterns. The psychological mechanisms of influence of a literary fairy tale on a personality are reflected: the process of initiation, mastering the experience of living in crisis states, penetration into the unconscious spheres of the psyche, solving emotional problems, achieving catharsis, relieving psycho-emotional stress. The directions of activity with a literary fairy tale are indicated (work with the metaphor of the work, drawing based on the fairy tale, discussing the behaviour, motives of the characters' actions, reproducing episodes of the work in a role-playing game, analysing the morality of the fairy tale, creative work on rewriting, adding).
