Abstract
To solve the tasks of civic education, the civic and historical educational field is studied in elementary school, the purpose of which is to form civic competence, one's own identity, familiarization with the past and present, an active civic position on the principles of democracy, and the acquisition of social experience. Folk dance, as a unique phenomenon of universal human culture, reflecting traditions, rituals, customs, everyday life, work, entertainment, ideas about the values of the people, attitude towards man, family, and homeland, is an appropriate tool for studying civic and historical educational fields. The potential possibilities of folk games in studying civic and historical educational fields are: familiarization with the traditions, customs, life, work, entertainment, and culture of the Ukrainian people through games of historical, social, and everyday orientation, ritual and customary games; formation of value orientations of younger schoolchildren, which are reflected in folk games; acquisition of social experience, which is presented in vivid plots, game actions of round dances, mobile, ritual, and customary games; enrichment of emotional experience, development of emotional intelligence, emotional relief of younger schoolchildren through involvement, active participation in games; self-realization and a sense of involvement in joint actions, community, which contributes to the development of one's own identity. When organizing Ukrainian folk games in elementary school, it is important to pay attention to the following factors: the introduction of various types of folk games in a certain system that meets the objectives of studying the educational field and the educational needs of younger schoolchildren; adherence to a certain methodology for conducting folk games; updating and complicating tasks for folk games to demonstrate activity, initiative, and independence in solving the game problem.
