Abstract

The article presents a theoretical analysis on the issue of forming digital competence of children of the older preschool age. The normative framework is characterized, the scientific developments of theorists and practitioners are studied, and the terminological field of research is clarified. The concepts of “digital competence of preschool age children”, “digital culture”, “digital literacy” are considered instead of “media competence”, “media culture”, “media literacy”. Based on the terminological analysis, it was determined that the concept of "digital competence" is considered by scientists as the ability to understand and apply digital technologies and systems in everyday life, as well as to critically and independently evaluate sources of digital information, to use them creatively. Educational programs for preschool children on the subject of educational tasks, the purpose of which is the formation of digital competence of preschool children, are characterized. The research of Ukrainian and foreign scientists has shown that the digital world has an extraordinary impact on the life of a modern individual, in which children are also involved from an early age. The article considers scientific views on the creation of educational and informational space in preschool education institutions. It is determined that the developmental educational and informational environment for a child of preschool age should be based on common views and values of educators and parents. It is emphasized the important role of interaction between family and preschool educational institution in order to ensure safety in the digital environment, development of critical thinking in the process of using digital content. The article analyses the groundwork presented by theorists and practitioners on the creation and use of digital educational content for children of preschool age in preschool education institutions. It has been revealed that digital educational content is a valuable didactic material in interaction with children, as it allows expanding the understanding of the surrounding environment, which is just starting to unveil itself to them. Contradictory views of scientists on the essence, objectives of forming digital competence in preschool children, controversial provisions on the content and use of the educational and informational environment of preschool education institution and the use of digital tools are indicated
