Abstract

The article describes the phenomenon of intercultural competence in scientific discourse. The meaning of the concepts of "competence", "key competencies", "competence approach" is clarified. The main attention is focused on the phenomenon of intercultural competence as the ability of an individual to communicate with representatives of other cultures. Various models of intercultural competence, authored by foreign researchers, are considered: individualistic, causal, and systemic. The goals of the formation of intercultural competence are highlighted: promoting the adaptation of the individual to the social, cultural, and economic realities of life in conditions of intercultural diversity and mutual relations between representatives of different ethnocultural groups; the formation of intellectual, social, and cultural potential based on knowledge of an intercultural nature, the principles of humanity and tolerance; promoting the formation of an individual capable of active interaction with representatives of other ethnocultural groups, effective professional activity in an intercultural environment, which is characterized by a sense of respect for the spiritual and moral values of other cultures. The problems that arise in the process of forming intercultural competence of education seekers are emphasized. The mandatory components and elements of forming intercultural competence of education seekers are considered. Methods of forming intercultural competence of students and pupils are highlighted: development of intercultural content of education, which is implemented in educational-cognitive, scientific-research, practical training and application of interactive, game, training, research forms and methods of work; introduction of web technologies and innovative forms of organizing the educational process, based on international cooperation of partner higher educational institutions, as well as designing a language/speech discourse that is as close as possible to the professional one and key factors of their implementation: immersion methodology, e-inclusion, intercultural interaction, professional discourse; role-playing, dramatization, business games, analysis of a specific situation, brainstorming, round table; conducting methodological workshops, video trainings, culturally specific trainings, discussions, group discussions, use of problem situations.
