Abstract

It is worth noting that the study of different nations’ languages dates back to ancient times, remains relevant today, and will always be important. The reason is that fully grasping the depth of language is impossible. As is well known, language is not merely a means of communication; it is a retransmission of our thoughts in word forms. Studying a language allows us to identify certain features and criteria by which we can form an understanding of a representative of a particular nation and attempt to comprehend their thought flow and way of thinking. One key aspect of studying world languages is set expressions, as they are present in every language. In our opinion, this is because they are created and expressed through the soul of the people. It should also be noted that stable expressions are a kind of linguistic category that not only spark interest in research but also create obstacles in the study and comprehension of a foreign language by non-native speakers. In our view, it would be appropriate for Japanese language textbooks, especially the basic one, Minna no Nihongo, to devote more attention and offer more exercises focused specifically on practicing set expressions. These are the key to understanding the language being studied. We analyzed methodological recommendations regarding foreign language learning, familiarized ourselves with modern teaching methods, and applied them to students’ acquisition of set expressions in the Japanese language. We concluded that the most effective approaches are competence strategy and sociocultural strategy of foreign language learning. However, we also found that neither traditional nor modern methods and approaches to teaching an Eastern language can fully guarantee the level of proficiency and knowledge necessary for effective communication. Accordingly, in the fast-paced environment of modern life and education, teachers must remain flexible and continuously vary their teaching methods to enhance material comprehension and adapt to contemporary realities. The technique of spatially representing a situation with the use of a particular expression of speech, working out situations with its use, both imaginary and real, in pairs, dialogues, role-playing games, with the participation of materials created using the latest technologies, is effective. The advantage will be that students create their own situations, not just those given by the teacher. To foster a culture of high-quality Japanese language teaching and to train competent professionals, it is necessary to constantly update teaching strategy resources, combine and experiment with various methods, engage students in using modern technologies, and build appropriate systems of motivational incentives to encourage learning.
