Abstract

The article explores the essence of gamification as a modern pedagogical technology in the context of implementing the Concept of the New Ukrainian School. Gamification is viewed not merely as a set of isolated techniques or tools but as a holistic system integrated into the educational process to enhance students’ motivation and engagement. A comparative analysis of key scholarly approaches to the definition of "gamification" is conducted, with an emphasis on its structural components, methodological foundations, and didactic features. The distinctions between gamification and traditional game-based learning are outlined, with a focus on its potential as an innovative educational technology that combines developmental, instructional, and educational functions. Special attention is paid to the impact of gamification on the formation of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation among primary school learners, considering their age and psychological characteristics. Examples of digital platforms and tools commonly used by primary school teachers—such as ClassDojo, Kahoot!, Wordwall, LearningApps, Classtime—are provided. The role of the teacher is highlighted as an organizer and moderator of the gamified learning environment, ensuring pedagogical relevance, methodological integrity, and psychological comfort in the learning interaction. Key conditions for the effective implementation of gamification are defined, including methodological, technical, organizational, and psychological factors. The main benefits of gamification are described, along with its potential limitations, such as the risk of superficial application, technological constraints, and insufficient teacher training. The article substantiates the appropriateness of considering gamification as a systemic approach to developing students’ key competencies in primary education in line with the values and principles of the New Ukrainian School.
