Abstract
This translation project is aimed at translating a fragment of the book Training Your Own Psychiatric Service Dog by Max Matthews, an experienced dog trainer and author. The project consists of two chapters. The first chapter presents a translation of a part of the book into Ukrainian, made in compliance with the author`s style. The second section is devoted to the translation analysis, which describes the manual as a genre of literature and its typical features, characterizes medical and cynological terms, as well as the difficulties of their translation. This paper identifies and describes the groups of phenomena for denoting which the above-mentioned terminological units were used. The interdisciplinary terms that belong to both medical and cynological terminology were separately identified, and the subtleties of their reproduction in Ukrainian were considered in details. The second section also presents a quantitative analysis of the translation techniques used to achieve adequate and faithful translation of both terminological units and the text as a whole. The classification of translation methods presented by L. Molina and A. Hurtado Albir was used in this work.
