Анотація
The translation project is dedicated to the translation of the fragment of the book 12 Japanese Concepts To Live By by Ankur Gupta and its translation analysis. The text identifies and describes the characteristics of the self-help book about 12 Japanese concepts, their history and examples of application in everyday life, as well as the author's writing style. The book is aimed at people interested in Japanese culture and self-development. In addition, the book aims to help people navigate life and achieve meaningful goals. The translation project is divided into two chapters. The first chapter provides the original of the selected fragment from the book and the translated version into Ukrainian. The translated fragment embraces the introduction and chapters 1 to 7 inclusive. The second chapter consists of a translation analysis, namely the discourse analysis of the book, a research of the translation of Japanese cultural and philosophical terminology, intertextual features, namely epigraphs, ‘story within a story’, references to Japanese legends and life stories, and quotations. The second chapter also analyses the use of translation techniques in the translation of stylistic features, namely hypophora and visual descriptions. When translating a self-help book, the main difficulty was to correctly reproduce cultural and philosophical terms that are part of Japanese culture, as adequate translation of these terms can be challenging, especially if there are no direct equivalents in the target language. It was also important to maintain the author's informal and optimistic tone, as this encourages and motivates the reader to learn and embrace the concepts in everyday life. The translation project will be interesting and useful for the Ukrainian audience interested in Japanese culture. Also, translating books on Japanese culture and self-development into Ukrainian gives readers the opportunity to study and learn about Japanese culture
