Abstract

The translation project aims at the study of the peculiarities of translating cultural references in the motivational English text The Power of Systems: How to Create a Life that Works by Steve Chandler and Trevor Timbeck. The primary focus is on the rendering allusions, realities, quotations, slogans and other cultural references that form the genre and style features of the original. The paper consists of the author's own translation of a fragment of the text and an analytical section defining the difficulties of reproducing cultural realities, systematising translation techniques and justifying the strategies used. The selected material is relevant because it is modern motivational prose with a high concentration of cultural references. The paper relies on the classification of techniques by Molina and Hurtado Albir.
