Abstract

This project is a realization of Matt Galea's translation of How to Spot the (Star) Signs. The project focuses on linguistic characteristics of translating astrological manuals as well as analyzing some stylistic language devices that are key to the translation process. Special attention was paid to metaphorical elements, which serve as one of the ways to convey information about astrological observations as well as colloquialisms, which reflects the author's style. The study focuses on translation techniques and provides justifications for the translation solutions employed. The project consists of two chapters. Chapter 1 presents the author's translation of the selected material from English into Ukrainian. The main goals here were to preserve the stylistic consistency of the original as well as to ensure informativeness and objectivity. Chapter 2 includes a detailed analysis and justification of the adequacy of translation techniques used.
