Abstract

The research skills of younger schoolchildren serve as the basis for the formation of knowledge, obtaining and processing new information, and developing independence, creativity, and curiosity. We consider the research skills of younger schoolchildren as a set of intellectual, practical, and emotional actions to solve research-oriented tasks. Among such skills, we define: the ability to see problems; ask questions; make assumptions; define concepts; observe; compare; classify; structure material; draw conclusions; prove one's own ideas. The content of the civics and history education field helps to master research skills that correlate with the outcomes defined in the State Standard of Primary Education. To determine the level of development of research skills of 3rd grade students, practical tasks of a research nature were proposed based on the content material of the civic and historical educational field. Six such tasks were developed, each corresponding to one of the research skills: asking problem questions, planning one's own research, collecting and analyzing information from a text source, comparing and classifying information, and formulating conclusions. До кожного завдання були визначені кількісні (кількість правильних відповідей) та якісні показники (правильність, повнота, Quantitative (number of correct answers) and qualitative indicators (correctness, completeness, logicality of the answer, originality, accuracy in completing the task, absence of repetitions) were determined for each task.логічність відповіді, оригінальність, точність у виконанні завдання, відсутність повторень). Analysis of the empirical data obtained showed that 3rd grade students have better developed skills in classifying (60% average and 20% high and low level), comparing (55% average and 20% high and 25% low level), drawing conclusions and planning research conclusions (50% average and 30% high and 20% low level). Lower indicators of the development of the ability to ask questions (45% average and 35% high and 20% low level) and collect information (45% average and 15% high and 40% low level). For students to better master research skills, it is advisable to choose material that arouses interest, emotions, is located around, and to give preference to practical methods of research activity.
