Abstract

Modern education is aimed at developing in students not only academic knowledge but also, in particular, creativity—the ability to think non-traditionally, generate new ideas, and implement them. One of the promising directions for fostering creativity in primary school students is the use of the STEAM approach, which integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. In pedagogy, creativity is viewed as a factor contributing to the development of independence, self-confidence, and the ability for innovative thinking. Thus, creativity is understood as the ability to generate new ideas, find unconventional solutions, and adapt to change. In the educational process, creativity manifests itself in searching for original answers to questions, creating non-standard approaches to completing creative tasks and exercises. It is regarded as an integral component of artistic expression, encompassing a range of abilities and activities related to self-expression, cultural development, and artistic realization. The development of creativity in primary school students is one of the most relevant issues in modern pedagogy. Analysis of scientific sources shows that the problem of personal creativity has been explored in the research of I. Bila, T. Dardan, N. Karpenko, L. Mishchykha, V. Moliako, I. Sereda, T. Fedotova, M. Shvardak, V. Shkoromyda, R. Shpitsa, O. Kulyk, and other scholars. The field of arts education creates particularly favorable conditions for the development of creativity in younger schoolchildren. It encompasses several content strands associated with the main types of art: music, visual arts, choreography, and theatre. The specifics of teaching the integrated course “Art” in primary school are addressed in the works of L. Arystova, V. Bovsunivskyi, T. Hordiienko, M. Kachur, V. Martynova, L. Masol, O. Serdiuk, T. Turchyn, and others. Traditional teaching methods do not always effectively stimulate the development of students’ creativity, whereas the use of STEAM projects involves the active engagement of children in project-based learning, experimentation, and the search for innovative solutions. The features of STEAM education and STEAM projects are revealed in the works of V. Andriievska, D. Kolomiiets, Yu. Babchuk, H. Chadiuk, K. Kotliarova, N. Polikhun, K. Postova, H. Onopchenko, O. Onopchenko, I. Shevchenko, V. Solovei, M. Mazur, N. Soroko, T. Umanska, O. Shybka, H. Shybka, and many other researchers. The legislative and regulatory framework—which includes the State National Programme “Education” (“Ukraine of the 21st Century”), the Laws of Ukraine “On Education” (2017) and “On Complete General Secondary Education” (2020), the State Standard of Primary Education (2018), and other documents—pays significant attention to the development of creative abilities in primary school students and to fostering their creativity. This is largely driven by the transition of primary education to the principles of the New Ukrainian School (2016). Despite the extensive body of research, the issue of developing students’ creativity through the use of STEAM projects under martial-law conditions requires clarification and remains highly relevant for further study.
