Abstract
The aim of the article is to analyse main approaches to the formation and assessment of citizens’ digital literacy in different spheres of activity, in particular digital competence of students in the field of library, information and archival studies. Research methods. The research methodology grounds on systemic and competency approaches, methods of analysis and synthesis, content analysis of open access information resources, comparative analysis, systematisation and generalisation of research data. The scientific novelty lies in comparing innovative data on assessing the training level of applicants for the speciality 029 “Information, Library and Archival Studies” for professional activity in the context of a digital society with research results that present the formation of digital competencies of future lecturers of higher pedagogical educational institutions, library specialists and users of higher education libraries, etc. Main conclusions. It is noted that the level of formation of digital competencies among higher education students majoring in “Information, Library and Archival Studies” is high. This confirms the readiness of future specialists who are going to work in libraries, archives, information services and information service centres to act in conditions of digital transformations. Such specialists are able to help other citizens master key combinations of knowledge, skills, abilities, ways of thinking, views and other personal qualities in the field of information-communication and digital technologies defined in the “Concept for the Development of Digital Competencies” (2021). Digital technologies, and at the same time requirements for proficiency in their use, are developing extremely rapidly. Over the last 2–3 years, the appliance of artificial intelligence technologies in information activities and education has been gaining an extraordinary pace. Therefore, the development of future specialists’ relevant competencies will depend on the speed of response to such changes in educational programmes, professional and educational standards. One of possible ways out of this situation would be interdisciplinary educational programmes and so-called “micro-qualifications” or short certificate programmes, in particular on the digitisation of different types of document resources, creation of metadata, UX design for information services, digital communication, etc.
