Abstract
The pedagogical potential of the organoleptic method of hazard identification as a primary mechanism for forming the competence of safe behavior of students of basic secondary education in accordance with 6 SLO (Student Learning Outcome) 2.1.1 of the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education (“identifies probable hazards in everyday life”) is investigated. The theoretical foundations of sensory perception through vision, hearing, smell, touch, and proprioceptive signals as the initial link in the chain “hazard detection — risk assessment — action” are examined. The complementary role of the organoleptic method in relation to instrumental approaches defined in ISO 45001 and ISO 31000 under everyday and wartime conditions is established. The content of six model curricula of the integrated course “Health, Safety and Well-being” (grades 5–6) is analyzed, revealing systematic coverage of 127 safety-related thematic blocks across eight domains (domestic, road traffic, wartime, etc.), but a fragmented implementation of the sensory component—only 9.4% of topics provide for multimodal perception through vision, hearing, smell, and touch. A scientific gap is identified in the lack of systematized pedagogical approaches to the formation of sensory–cognitive competence. The necessity is substantiated for the development and integration of a module “Sensory Identification of Hazards” into model curricula and textbooks of the integrated course “Health, Safety and Well-being,” including the development of sensory profiles for 12 typical threats and multimodal algorithms “sensory signal → risk → action” to enhance students’ preparedness for real-world threats.
