Abstract

The article examines current issues related to the development of linguistic politeness and communication among primary school pupils in Ukrainian language lessons. The focus is on the organizational and methodological system for developing pupils’ etiquette skills within the primary school educational process. Formulas of linguistic etiquette norms are considered essential components of the culture of linguistic politeness among pupils in grades 1–4. The linguodidactic aspect of this issue is analysed. The level of mastery of basic etiquette and communication culture among primary school pupils in Ukrainian language lessons has been assessed. The study outlines the pedagogical conditions that ensure effective instruction in developing linguistic etiquette norms, which serve as the basis for forming a culture of polite communication among middle and high school students in general secondary education institutions. The pedagogical conditions necessary for effective teacher-led development of pupils’ linguistic politeness — serving as a foundation for the further cultivation of a polite communication culture in middle and high school — are identified. A monitoring study of the effectiveness of the developed organizational and methodological foundations for enhancing linguistic politeness and communication in primary school pupils has been conducted. A set of appropriate methods, techniques, forms, and tools for developing linguistic politeness in primary language education applicants is presented. Key areas of teacher work aimed at forming linguistic politeness skills in primary school pupils are defined, including the ability to communicate in standard etiquette situations (greetings, addressing others, introductions, invitations, apologies, requests, advice, agreement, refusal, congratulations, wishes, gratitude, sympathy, approval, compliments, expressing personal opinions, farewells, telephone communication, and correspondence). A system of exercises and tasks to develop a culture of linguistic politeness is proposed for use in Ukrainian language lessons. Methodological recommendations for primary school teachers regarding the formation of pupils’ etiquette skills are provided.
