Abstract

The relevance of the study is determined by the need for higher education to undergo dynamic transformational shifts aimed at gamification, digitalization, and the digitization of the educational process to enhance students’ professional competencies, critical thinking, self-awareness, and creative activity. It is emphasized that the process of developing foreign language competence is interdisciplinary, combining the acquisition of linguistic knowledge, the development of intercultural and communicative competence, the formation of value orientations, and promoting readiness for professional mobility and adaptation in a globalized society. The study identifies that the use of ICT in the university educational environment provides additional opportunities for personalized learning, interactivity, autonomy, and increased cognitive engagement of students, while fostering digital literacy and self-organization skills. Based on the analysis of scientific sources, a set of interrelated methodological approaches ensuring the integrity of the studied process is systematized: systemic, personality-oriented, competency-based, activity-based, axiological, information-communication, cognitive, communicative, cultural, problem-oriented, and contextual. It is demonstrated that the integration of these approaches ensures a harmonious combination of value-based, motivational, cognitive, and activity components of students’ cognitive orientation, contributing to the development of critical thinking, research activity, and professional competence. It is concluded that effective formation of cognitive orientation is possible through the integration of ICT into the learning process, the creation of an open communication environment, the use of innovative teaching methods, and individualized educational trajectories. Prospects for further research include the development of a structural-functional model for forming university students’ cognitive orientation using ICT, experimental verification of its effectiveness, and analysis of the influence of various methodological approaches on motivation, learning autonomy, and intercultural communication.
