Abstract

Abstract. The article examines the importance of SEL (social-emotional learning) in the context of creating a safe educational space in English lessons in primary school. Primary school students in Ukraine are experiencing extremely difficult and stressful conditions due to the war, which has caused significant changes in their lives - environmental changes, forced relocations, breaks in education, long periods of distance learning. All this has led to educational gaps. Of course, war affects physical safety, but more so - the emotional state of the child, which affects the ability to learn, concentrate and remember new information. Therefore, social-emotional learning (SEL) is a key strategy that helps children better manage their own emotions, make responsible decisions, build healthy relationships and restore motivation to learn. The study also highlights the work of parents, who spend most of their lives with their children and can support their emotional resilience outside of class and become good partners in school. Teamwork with teachers is crucial for students to overcome educational losses and create an emotionally stable environment that helps children work on mastering knowledge, skills and abilities and healthy psychological development. Support from parents or caregivers is combined with the use of socio-emotional learning methods proposed by teachers, and the involvement of parents in this process is critically important for the successful implementation of socio-emotional learning.
