The paper examines the transformation of contemporary women-authored popular prose and discusses the limitations of traditional genre-based approaches to its analysis. The concept of women-centred prose is proposed as a flexible analytical framework that shifts attention from external genre classification to the internal organisation of narratives around female experience. Particular attention is given to changes in narrative perspective, thematic organisation, and narrative tone, including the declining centrality of irony and the growing focus on vulnerability, care, emotional labour, and interpersonal relationships. The analysis of English- and French-language novels demonstrates a recurring shift towards everyday experience, relational responsibility, and interdependence. Emotional ethics is considered an organising principle that operates through representations of everyday interactions, vulnerability, and sustained practices of care. The study argues that this perspective provides a more precise framework for describing contemporary women-centred prose without reducing it to a fixed set of genre conventions.
