The article examines the visual, prognostic potential of art culture on the example of two texts by contemporary Ukrainian artists – Yurko Gudz’s poem “Barricades on the Cross” (2002) and Dmytro Ternov’s drama “Detailing” (2012). These texts, created as artistic reality, show the ability of artists to model imaginary events so visibly and authentically that future historical realities will demonstrate many exact coincidences between current historical discourse and textual reality. Visualized artistic texts are able to form certain patterns and codes in the minds of recipients. The analyzed texts envisage the events of two Ukrainian Maidans – the Orange Revolution of 2003–2004 and the Revolution of Dignity of 2013–2014. At the same time, Yu. Gudz modeled a very abstract artistic reality, capturing the unpreparedness of Ukrainian society for its own Ukrainian self-identification, and D. Ternovy in his work, he pondered how events in Ukraine could unfold during the 2015 presidential election, working in a mode of anti-utopia rather than real predictive modeling. However, the artistic intuition of both artists, who subtly felt the real Ukrainian realities, turned out to be extremely developed, and the texts – providential: the authors manage to predict and describe with photographic accuracy some events that did not happen at the time of publication, and human emotions and hesitations these events. Both works realize the importance of the axiological and geopolitical definition of Ukrainians in the XXI century, and the understanding of these value shifts is due to the fate of specific “ordinary” people and their involvement / non-involvement in the protests on the Maidan. Postcolonial optics of reading these texts allows to include in the field of analysis discourses: colonial trauma and its experience / overcoming; media manipulations of mass consciousness, leading to a distorted picture of reality; awakening of human dignity in people who have not dreamed of dignity for a long time; a new context of Ukrainians’ search for their own identity. Important is the desire of Ukrainian artists to label Russian “signs” in the artistic prediction of future confrontations not only as destructive to the national self-identification of Ukrainians, but also as aggressive towards people in general: then the crimes of the Russian government “Kingdoms of darkness”, showing that on the Maidan Ukrainians are not fighting with power, but with global planetary evil. It is noted that artistic culture, as demonstrated by the texts of Yu. Gudz and D. Ternovy, is endowed with a unique ability to anticipate and in some way model non-artistic reality.
